Holy awesome weekend ahead! On FRIDAY the Brokedowns play a show with Brickfight, Johnny Bodacious and the Bad Attitudes, and Amen and the Hell Yeahs at the EWL house ALL the way out in Wonder Lake, the instruMETAL Pelican play at the Empty Bottle (10 PM, $12 advance, $14 door), The Queers bring their soda-pop punk to Reggie’s Rock Club (7 PM, $14, all ages) with the oddly KISS-reminiscent  I Love Rich. SATURDAY brings forth a psychedelic garage orgy at the Bloodline Speakeasy with Hollows, International Date Lines, Cococoma, Terrible Twos, and Maximum Wage, but if you prefer your D.I.Y. a little harder head over to Rancho Huevos for punk rock from Daily Void and No Slogan. It’s a Chicago metal spectacular(!) at Lincoln Hall (9 PM, $12 advance, $14 door, 18+) with Russian Circles and Sweet Cobra, Ronny’s Bar is having an eye/ ear/ gasm with a multi-media art show, snacks, and music from Michael Michael Motorcycle and Amen & the Hell Yeahs (in case you missed them on Friday). There’s also the HeWhoCorrupts, Inc. hardcore holiday party with 97-Shiki at the Beat Kitchen (10 PM, $5 advance, $8 door, 17+) and for $18 you can see the Verve Pipe play at Schuba’s at 9 PM. Remember them? They did that one song, but don’t confuse it with this song, or that song. I cannot believe I almost forgot to mention the Polkaholics show tomorrow at 9 PM at Quenchers, and finally, spend your SUNDAY jumping around to the tribal punk electro space rock noise of Chicago’s Mahjongg at the Hideout (9 PM, $10).

Weekend Preview: 12/4, 12/5, 12/6

the Dutchess & the Duke *YAWN*

It’s turning out to be an alt. country-ish weekend here in Chicago, on FRIDAY Holly Golightly bring their dirty blues from across the pond to the Subterranean along with the hoedown hogsteppin’ energy of the Siderunners, and the turned down, poppy, “Ponys LITE” sound of Maximum Wage Small Brown Bike also play two shows at the Beat Kitchen (5:30 PM/all ages/$12/with Bridge & Tunnel, Amoebas; 10 PM/sold out/with Noise By Numbers, Cheap Girls), and over in Logan Square the newly repainted and vamped up Ronny’s Bar is holding a benefit for itself at 6 PM with the punkish sounds of Seedy Sea Controversy, Mountains for Clouds, Pineal Eye, The Coyotes, and others. Expect drink specials, giveaways, and the (now less putrid) smell of “piss and Ramen noodles”. On SATURDAY night get that special dose of Americana roots rock at the Mile Long Records comp. release party with performances by bands Nashville Wreckers, Twilight RevialMedicine Hat, and others at Martyr’s (9 PM, $8, 21+). That afternoon Bob Dylan-esque the Dutchess & the Duke play a free in-store at the Wicker Park Reckless Records at 5 PM, then go on to play the Empty Bottle (10 PM, $10, 21+), which is then followed by an Okmoniks-inspired set by Bloody Anchors at 1 AM. If you dont feel like waiting all night for psyched out garage, then head over to the Whistler for a  DJ set by Plastic Crimewave (10 PM, free, 21+). Round out your weekend on SUNDAY at the Whistler with the Golden Horse Ranch Band as they play a sophisticated blend of country square dance with vocals as purty and sweet as sugar (7 PM, free, 21+).
